Well done JB!!

A month after a disappointing Worlds in Canada (54th) Jean-Baptiste Bernaz finshed second, behind the Italian Francesco Marrai, the pre-Olympic Regatta in Rio de Janeiro.
When he came out of the water everyone was shouting his name and he was left without voice. The blond tall laser sailor from Saint Maxime (FRA) has trained a lot since the Worlds – where he admitted he wasn’t in shape at all – his sparring partner being the Brazilian Sailing Super Star (and Star Sailors League sailor) Robert Scheidt with his 5 medals at 42 years he’s always on top of the game, and even if he didn’t make it to the Podium, he did finish second on the Medal Race.
Bernaz was happy with a fourth place on the last race, that was enough for him to reach to stand on the second step of the Podium “It’s great – he happily said after racing – after a complicated World Champion, this gives me back some confidence and I now have the enthusiasm to improve!”
The 28 year old hasn’t been in great shape lately and it cost him to be out of the French Sailing Team, so compared to the rest of the sailors he had less resources. But this great result will change things and, as Guillame Chiellino – Les Bleus team manager – he now has a contract with the French Marine so that he will receive a monthly salary to sustain his sailing from now to the Olympic Games in 2016.
